Jason Kidd left in the first quarter of Friday night’s game against the Utah Jazz with a right calf strain. The severity of the injury is uncertain so far. He left two minutes into the game and has taken his place amongst a growing list of injured Mavs players including Dirk Nowitzki, who missed his 4th consecutive game, and Delonte West who was out with a tight right hamstring. He has struggled so far this season averaging 4.3 points 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game, his overall shooting percentage and from 3 point range are both less then 29%.
But when their is misfortune their is opportunity, and that opened the proverbial window for Rodrigue Beaubois who filled in nicely for Kidd to avoid the start of a 2 game losing skid and tie the San Antonio Spurs for first place. Roddy B led the Mavs with 22 points, had 7 assists, 6 rebounds and a career high 4 blocked shots. Yes, 4 blocked shots, in 36 minutes, a season high. Roddy B was also 3 of 5 from downtown. Vince Carter returned to the line up adding 12 points, 8 of which came in the first quarter.
